Let me clarify: I was trying to play a CD not a DVD as I previously stated. I went to a website called justanswer.com. This is the script from that conversation. Perhaps it will help you out. If not, try that website; I've been there twice now and have positive results both times.
Me: I have a Dell Inspiron 530S and Vista Home Premium. Is there a trick to playing a CD? With my old system, I would just put in the CD and it would automatically start playing.
Help: If you click start then Default Programs,
Click on Autoplay settings and Browse to the media you want to change, and choose the default program from the associated drop-down menu on the right.
Once you have done this it will automatically play the disk when you put it in.
Me: Clicked on default programs
clicked on autoplay settings
chose windows media player for default program
for audio CD and Enhanced audio CD
Put in the CD
Nothing happened
Help: A CDDA is a standard audio disk so it should autostart if you selected it in your settings and then rebooted.
The only other thing I can think of is if you have not performed your Microsoft updates, As Microsoft issued a Vista patch to address an issue like this.
Just click start then programs and hit updates.
Me: I forgot to reboot. Duh! It works. Thank you!!
