i use disposables (contractors/painters paper towels in the big dispenser box and disinfecting wipes) for seriously grimy surfaces and toilets . all other towels i just wash with a laundry detergent in hot water and sometimes bleach unless they are microfiber so no bleach for them or fabric softener.

i don't contaminate "toilet" towels with others. use paper for them.

    hope this helps.

Add a little bleach to your cloths and you will be good to go, I have been doing that the past 5 years. Paper can be very expensive....

i know it's expensive but i have a problem using my towels to clean toilets that look like the users should have died from losing what is splattered all over the seat and bowl rim. i guess it's just not trusting bleach to get rid of those poopy germs good enough to use on some other surface in the future...like a kitchen counter or sink.

have also heard that kitchens are grosser than toilets but can't reverse my thinking.

does anyone color-code or have a system that isolates the nasty rags from the others? it is hard to launder everything separately...of course we have to with the microfibers because of no bleach. [?]

    thanks,

Soaking rags in HOT water and BLEACH for 10 min BEFORE adding detergent, should take care of the germs. I use toilet paper (which I can just flush down after use) on toilet seats, and rags for everywhere else. I also think it's important replace sets of rags often, after too much use they simply won't get clean enough anymore.

I use cloth diapers as my towels/rags (all surfaces) which are all white so I can bleach them.

I agree using paper towels can get very expensive,[:(] So I only use paper towels on toilets & mirrors.
I usually go through 1/2 a roll per house.
I use the cheap white wash cloths from wal-mart for everything else.
I bleach, soak and wash them hot water.

Then I use the blue microfiber for dusting (I wash separate.)
